Wilkins Farming often has seasonal vacancies for tractor, truck & machine operators as well as various farm labouring positions. We normally employ people for summer holiday jobs and occasionally have permanent vacancies including livestock roles.

We have a fleet of modern tractors, harvest equipment, haulage trucks and a full range of equipment for cultivation, fertilising, planting, spraying & baling.

Experienced staff who enjoy operating the latest agricultural equipment in the varied conditions throughout the upper Southland region are a major component in the success of WFL.

Excavator Operator
Wilkins Farming Co is a large scale farming operation based in Northern Southland with contracting operations that include transport and earthmoving. We are seeking an experienced excavator, machine and truck operator for agricultural earthmoving.

We have a busy schedule ahead and are looking for an experienced operator to hit the ground running. We do a wide range of work including land clearing, irrigation, drainage, building sites, farm track construction and maintenance, stock water system installation and maintenance, dairy farm maintenance lanes, ponds and much more.

We have a wide range of equipment including excavators, loader, grader, screening plant and trucks. The main role for this person will be operating a brand new 20 tonne excavator that we are ordering in the coming weeks but not limited to this. Experience and willingness to operate other machinery will be necessary.

This role will require someone physically fit and able to work long hours when required. The demands of this job will sometimes be challenging and require good problem solving skills we are always looking for the best results for our clients.

– You will need a high standard of detail in your work and also looking after the equipment.
– Ability to fill out time sheets and dockets correctly.
– Health and safety knowledge, ability and willingness to adhere to H&S requirements.
– Heavy traffic and W.T.R licences would be preferred but we can help get this for the right candidate.
– Knowledge of farm drainage is a must.
– Ability to use Laser Level and work to levels also needed.
– Forward thinking and ability to work unsupervised is a must
– Pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
– A good positive attitude towards work, fellow workers and the workplace is key.

Truck Driver Wanted

We are looking for a capable bulk truck driver, full time,  to work as part of our team on our cropping and livestock operation in Northern Southland. Main roles include carting grain at harvest, grain to customers and backloading fertiliser.

Operators are expected to respect their equipment, keep the gear clean, keep paperwork in good order and maintain good customer relations.

Bulky & Bulk Truck Driver

We are looking for a capable full time permanent employee to be our bulky (fertiliser spreader) operator.  The role will be mostly bulky work sowing fertiliser on our own farm and could be complimented by driving a bulk truck carting grain at harvest and fertiliser.

Operators are expected to respect their equipment, keep it clean and keep paperwork in good order.

This is an important role requiring attention to detail ensuring accurate rates of product are applied which is assisted by a GPS mapping & proof of placement system. Adequate training will be provided to the successful applicant.

The bulk cartage component is preferred but not 100% necessary, to get the right bulky operator is our priority and we could tailor what they do in the quiet times to suit the applicant’s strengths and our business’s needs.

The current operator of 5 years remains within our business meaning there will be experienced support available.
