Wilkins Farming often has seasonal vacancies for tractor, truck & machine operators as well as various farm labouring positions. We normally employ people for summer holiday jobs and occasionally have permanent vacancies including livestock roles.

We have a fleet of modern tractors, harvest equipment, haulage trucks and a full range of equipment for cultivation, fertilising, planting, spraying & baling.

Experienced staff who enjoy operating the latest agricultural equipment in the varied conditions throughout the upper Southland region are a major component in the success of WFL.

Experienced Farm Shepherd

Wilkins Farming Co is a mixed livestock and cropping farm located in Wendonside, Northern Southland.

We are looking for an experienced shepherd for stock work. This will be predominantly sheep work but does include beef and dairy grazing.

The applicant must possess these skills:
-good communication
-good attitude
-team player
-able to follow instructions
-able to work autonomously
-lambing experience
-feed budgeting experience would be beneficial
-tractor experience would be helpful but not essential

The successful applicant must have their own dogs and a full clean drivers licence. There may be accommodation available.

Farm Development Assistant

We are looking for a keen and enthusiastic operator as part of our team in an assistant role of our general farm maintenance and development program.

Wilkins Farming is a longstanding family farming business based in Northern Southland with operations spanning livestock, cropping and contracting.

Within Wilkins Farming we have a small team of ‘Earth Works’ personnel charged with general farm maintenance and development covering tasks such as drainage, lane maintenance, irrigation, tree removal and other special projects. We have modern equipment suitable to cover these tasks including diggers, trucks, grader, roller etc.

We are looking for somebody energetic and keen to learn, who is passionate about operating equipment and takes pride in their work. Some machine experience is necessary but the main requirement is a good attitude with an appetite to learn. The successful applicant will have the opportunity for career progression and we are prepared to support them through the process of attaining relevant licence’s and certificates.

This role will involve exposure to a diverse range of tasks as outlined above and will also involve some manual labour so applicants must be physically capable and prepared to apply themselves as part of our busy and hardworking team. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work under and learn from high quality experienced operators, on the other hand they will be required to work unsupervised at times also.

The job is based out of Wendonside but is spread all over Northern Southland from day to day, competitive pay to match the skills and experience of the successful applicant are on offer. Wilkins Farming Co are looking for an experienced fencer to work as part of our team and manage the fencing requirements of the operation.

The successful applicant is expected to be a tidy operator who takes pride in their work, respects their equipment, be clear communicators and keep paperwork in good order.

This is an important role requiring attention to detail setting the tone for the presentation of a property for generations.

There is a good variety of sheep, deer, dairy and landscaping fencing as part of a broad spectrum of projects and maintenance across Northern Southland.

The role could be full time short term or permanent depending on the applicant.

Dairy Farm Staff

Wilkins Farming Co are a longstanding family farming business in Northern Southland which covers livestock, cropping and contracting. As part of this we oversee several dairy operations which require personnel of all levels of experience either immediately or for the new season beginning June 2019, open to negotiation to suit the successful applicants.

We are looking for long term permanent, honest and energetic people who are passionate about dairy farming. The farms are overseen and managed by high calibre long term personnel of 5 -10 years who offer good understanding of the farms, business and the farming area allowing them to provide good support to new personnel. The scope of the business allows career progression for successful applicants.

Typical dairy farming duties are on offer like milking, feeding/shifting stock, irrigation, general farm maintenance and animal husbandry. The sheds are rotaries with in-shed feeding, automatic cup removers and Protrack. The farms are mostly flat land and irrigated by pivots with a small amount of sprinkler and rotorainer in the margins.

The farms are located at Five Rivers and Wendonside, there is a range of accommodation options available. Both farms are well situated for outdoor pursuits and have bus services to local schools. Competitive pay packages to match the skills and experience of the successful applicants on offer.

Truck Driver Wanted

We are looking for a capable full-time bulk truck driver to work as part of our team on our cropping and livestock operation in Northern Southland. Main roles include carting grain at harvest, grain to customers and backloading fertiliser.

Operators are expected to respect their equipment, keep the gear clean, keep paperwork in good order and maintain good customer relations.

Accommodation can be arranged if necessary.
