Wilkins Farming often has seasonal vacancies for tractor, truck & machine operators as well as various farm labouring positions. We normally employ people for summer holiday jobs and occasionally have permanent vacancies including livestock roles.

We have a fleet of modern tractors, harvest equipment, haulage trucks and a full range of equipment for cultivation, fertilising, planting, spraying & baling.

Transport Dispatcher – Permanent full time

Wilkins Farming Co is looking for a permanent full time Transport Dispatcher due to the growth of our business. The successful applicant will be competent & energetic with passion for the transport industry and working with people. Experience in a previous transport dispatch role would be an advantage, however candidates with experience in a similar field will be considered.

Position Overview
This is an important role in our business managing our Stock Feed Division and the smooth running of our transport operations ensuring the modern trucks are kept moving and productive as part of our cereal cropping and stock feed business. There will also be an element of administration and any other tasks as required to ensure the seamless operations of the business.

You will need to develop an understanding of our business and gain an appreciation as to all aspects involved.

We have experienced and friendly personnel who are welcoming and keen to train up new people to join our motivated team.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Computer Literacy, software transport management is integral to the role

Truck Driver – Flexible Working Hours

Our company is looking for a multi skilled operator who can cover our Auger Trucks along with our Bulk Lift out sides trucks with flexibility on the hours of the role. We are open to flexible working conditions with arrangements including casual work, fixed seasonal work, permanent part time work or shift work depending on what is most suitable for the successful applicant.

Yardsman/Loader Driver – Permanent full time

Wilkins Farming Co is looking for a permanent fulltime Yardsman/Loader Driver. The successful applicant will be competent and energetic with passion for machine and systems operation and working with people. Experience in a previous Yardsman/Loader Driver in grain specific equipment including loaders or telehandlers and grain specific equipment would be an advantage however candidates with experience in a similar field will be considered.

Position Overview

This is an important role in our business reporting to our Transport Dispatcher and supporting the smooth running of our transport operations within the business. This is an important role in our business where operators are expected to manage the handling of grain intake, cleaning, storage, crushing, blending, and loading out to facilitate our stock feed operation. The Yardsman/Loader Driver is expected to keep machinery clean & well maintained, accurate information records, be a good communicator and take pride in all areas of their work. Strong attention to detail is required in operating grain specific equipment such as augers, conveyors, elevators, screening & aspirator equipment, dryer, crushers, telehandlers, and tractors. The role works in closely with other grain plant personnel, transport operators, cropping manager, maintenance, and administration personnel.

You would need to develop an understanding of our business and appreciation for helping manage our harvest carting, fertiliser deliveries and expectations of our stockfeed customers.

Stock Manager – Permanent Full Time 

Wilkins Farming Company is a well-established family farming business spanning in livestock, cropping and contracting operations in Northern Southland. We have multiple trading entities covering livestock, cropping, transport and agricultural contracting.

Our company is seeking a Stock Manager who is passionate about the deer industry to lead in the day to day running of our intensive Red Deer Stud that breeds deer and finishes additional stock, along with a velveting herd.

Our stud Red hinds are run between 2 properties’ with the velveting herd on one, and our commercial finishing unit on the other. Situated in beautiful Southland NZ, we are located in Wendonside, one hour south of Queenstown, and 40 minutes from Gore. The position is for the Wendonside Farm.

Some key events in our annual deer stud calendar include a multi-day AI programme, Embryo Transfer programme, EMA and CT Scanning. In addition, we sell 2-year-old breeding stags for venison and velvet with 2 sales a year: one in the North Island in December and one in South Island in January.

This is role will involve stock work, maintenance, and a small amount of tractor work (mowing, fencing, and feeding out in the winter). We use modern Gallagher recording equipment to record animal liveweights and other important traits throughout the season, and we also run New Holland tractors.

Personnel Requirements:

  • Demonstrate a passion for agriculture and working with animals
  • Have a willingness to learn and take pride in their work
